Advantages of Internet Dating

There are numerous advantages of internet dating that will appeal to certain types of people. For people who are generally shy or have a little trouble communicating with people they don’t know too well, the advantages of internet dating speak for themselves. Internet dating also has its advantages for people who are veteran daters in the old fashion way in that they can screen out certain types of people by first meeting online before they ever get to the stage of meeting for a real date. They can interface before they go face to face, sorry that was my poor attempt at a joke, so let’s continue.
I would say the biggest advantage of internet dating is the fact you can get a chance to communicate in your own time and in your own personal space. I mean you don’t even need to leave your house but you can still have a conversation without the pressure of the moment being thrust upon you. You can have a chat online without the need to instantly reply when someone’s eyes are upon you. This is very comforting to some people but of course others may prefer the old fashion form of dating. It makes me wonder whether in a hundred years time or at some stage in the future most people will at first meet online or at least have a few “online dates” before a real date occurs. It reminds me of the movie Demolition Man where Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock’s characters are about to have sex in the future. Stallone is from the past and thinks he is about the have sex in the current way we have sex but is unpleasantly surprised when Sandra’s character hands him a virtual sex headset. It was definitely not the kind of “sex” he had in mind.
Another advantage of internet dating is that you can quite easily rule out certain people for potential real dates. If you are chatting with someone and they are using constant profanity, have nothing but sex on the brain (ok, this might be a bad example), are too arrogant for your liking or simply give you the wrong impression, you can easily tell them it’s time to cook dinner and never need to chat or online date with them again. Sometimes however, it might take a few internet dates to be able to filter out the people who are just not your type.
Dare I say it but you also get a chance to gauge a person’s general level of intelligence while engaged on an internet date. If he or she can’t spell to save their life or have very poor grammatical skills you might find this a necessary “need to know” before you decide on a real date. Then again you might be a poor speller also and the other person might be just what you are looking for.
Internet dating also has the advantage of giving you the chance to establish a type of relationship before you meet and also helps the conversation flow when you do eventually meet face to face. It will give you a head start in regards knowing what the other person likes and dislikes doing or talking about.
One more advantage of internet dating is it’s essentially free. Except for the cost of the phone call your computer makes to connect to the internet, you can have a free date and talk for as long as you both feel comfortable. Dating can be expensive and it is nice to know you have at least something in common before you meet in real life.
